FM Makarov Wins RKCC Rapid Championship

Nikolai Makarov won the Red Knight Chess Club Rapid Championship. The Phuket based FIDE Master won five games and drew one, a result that put him half point ahead of the competition. He was followed by three players from the Philippines: Rolly Parondo, Adrian Yulo and Remark Bartolome. The last two of the regular awards were won by International Master Prin Laohawirapap, and Raphael Nitsche-Hahn from Germany.

We saw a very strong playing field, with 49 players from 17 countries. Some of them living here in Thailand, and others who traveled from abroad and took the opportunity to visit our Chess Cafe and to play an international FIDE rated competition.

After the Rapid Championship, 42 players joined the Blitz FIDE Rated tournament. The young Myanmar FIDE Master, Han Thiha Sai, was the one who most efficiently manage to balance between speed and good moves. He won the tournament with 8.5 points from 9 games, leaving behind the Filipino masters, FM Deniel Causo and Rolly Parondo.

The winners of the RKCC Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships shared 35,000 baht in cash awards.
