Every Saturday from 18:00 to 19:00, at our Chess Cafe, we are organizing Fun Blitz Arena Tournaments for children. Due to the very high demand for these tournaments, we eventually ran out of space to accommodate all the parents and children who want to join. For that reason, starting this month, parents who wish to bring their children for the tournament will need to book their seats in advance. You will find a registration form at the bottom of this article.
What is a “Blitz Arena Tournament”?
For those who are not familiar, Arena Tournament is a different and very informal type of competition. In the official chess tournaments that are played by Swiss or Round Robin systems, there are fixed number of rounds. All the games of the current round must finish, in order for the next round to start. The players must patiently wait for all the games of the current round to finish, before they continue with the next round.
In the Arena tournament model, there are no fixed amount of rounds, but a fixed amount of time instead. During 1 hour, which is the duration of our tournament, the players will try to play and win as many games as possible. Once a player finishes a game, he reports the result and he is looking to start a game with another player that just finished a game. The players who are on a winning streak will win 2 points per game, instead of the usual 1 point per game.
This makes the arena tournament very dynamic and fun for the children. Each Saturday, the winner will receive a medal, and on every last Saturday of the month we will award the top 3 players with our special Red Knight Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
How to register?
To join our next Fun Blitz Arena Tournament, please submit the form below. Please carefully read the conditions inside the form, before submitting it. The entry fee is 200 THB, for which you will receive a voucher for food and drinks. You can collect the voucher at any time on the day of the tournament, and it will be valid only on that day.
The tournament will start at 18:00 and will finish at 19:00. You can arrive any time earlier to play practice games. Walk-in without a previous booking will only be allowed if we are not fully booked.
