Definitely Recommended Jul 22, 2009 It's simply amazing. I've been playing chess for a long time and this is the clock to buy. It has lots of pretty colors to choose from, the batteries are durable, and it has all the functions you'll ever need. It seems a lot of money for a chess clock, but it's definitely worth it. I bought a $30 Excalibur clock and it only lasted for about two or three years *and I wasn't even that into chess a few years ago*. It's really easy to set up once you get the hang of it. It's definitely worth the money.

Simply the best....with a learning curve. May 07, 2008 I am a chess player so I can only comment on this product from that perspective. If you have a chess rating then you have probably seen a Chronos chess clock. The ones that I have seen the most of was the Chornos II. I was at the Space Coast Open and my friend bought a Chronos II there. I later purchased the Chronos GX so we got together and compared. I personally like the GX better mainly for the compact size. The Chronos II is a great clock and I would never dream of saying anything bad about it. But the GX seems to give everything I need and want in a smaller package than the Chronos II. There are minor differences in display but my personal preference is the display of the GX. I saw no other difference between the two clocks when it came to features and quality. The GX didn't seem to have a hollow feel due to it's smaller size. I like this better than the Blitz version simply because I enjoy the leds. I understand the Blitz uses a different kind of indicator but I felt the leds would be easier to see across a tournament floor. I have the touch sensors which I really enjoy but I have used others with the buttons and can vouch for their quality as well.
There seems to be a lot of hype about the difficulties in learning how to set this clock. Once you are familiar with the basics it is pretty easy. The main problem most chess players have is that the versatility of the unit can get in the way. It has something like 70 settings built in. If all you want it for is chess than you really will only need to know two or three settings and then edit them accordingly. Also in order to change the batteries you will need to use a phillips screwdriver. I have another friend who owns a Chronos II and said he has had it for over three years and uses it a lot. He hasn't had to change the batteries yet.
